December 2017 ALL THINGS CHRISTMASSY!!!

Home/Uncategorized/December 2017 ALL THINGS CHRISTMASSY!!!

Well what can we say about our wonderful December. It was full of a wide variety of events for which there was something for everyone.

The 1st December was our Christmas Coffee Morning, which saw many people attend. It is always lovely to hear the chatter from with in the dining room.

There was a lovely raffle, tombola, and sweet stall, along side all the crafts which had been made. Not to forget the tea, coffee and cakes, and homemade sausage rolls!

We were delighted to raise £486.80 which all goes into the Resident’s fund allowing them to partake in their busy programme of activities.

No sooner was the coffee morning over we then had a Cheese and Wine Evening when we decorated the home ready for Christmas. It is always a fun evening spent with families, and the help is VERY much appreciated.

Other festive things included: Christmas Bingo

The Christmas Party:- This year we decided to change the format of the party. Traditionally it has always been on a Saturday afternoon, How ever this year we decided to hold it on a Friday evening. This meant that we also changed the entertainment and food as well.

It was really good fun with Musical Memories providing a full programme of Christmas songs, trivia and jokes. They were SO friendly and lovely we will certainly be seeing them again soon. Following their performance, we enjoyed a hot buffet which ‘went down a treat’.

The Ealing House Choir Christmas Performance: Having spent some sessions preparing the choir was ready to perform their repertoire of Christmas songs.

This year we had some very special visitors help the session to go with a swing. Not only were the children from Jenny and Sara’s there Santa and his donkey and reindeer were there too!

It was really special having a donkey and elf inside for the singing and the reindeer outside for all to see after the show.

Elf Day: The staff couldn’t wait to take part in Elf Day! (any excuse to dress up!!). The activities included making Elf masks, and throwing the hoops on the Elfs hat and generally taking ‘elf shots’ with each other!

Stanly’s 13th Birthday: Stanly the muched loved Ealing house cat became a teenager on 13th December. So naturally we held a CAT party! He even made it into The Mercury!

Trip to Santa’s Grotto and Lunch at The Crown: Once again Scott and Gail from the Crown pub in Catfield made the most amazing grotto, this year it was housed in one of their holiday cottages allowing it to be on display for longer. Sixteen of us went to see it and stayed for a Christmas lunch whilst there. It coincided with Irene and Ethel’s birthdays (although we need little persuasion to go to The Crown!!)

Reminiscence with Sheila Parish: Having spent an afternoon with Sheila back in September we knew that a Christmas reminiscence would be great fun, She brought all sorts of wonderful items with her. She talk though ‘childhood Christmas stockings’, war time gifts to the troops. Items were passed around for all to see, we could even eat some of the goodies and drink the home made ‘Mulled’ Apple Juice.  For tea, Sheila prepared a Christmas cake, Yule log, mince pies and some Ginger wine. It was all delicious.

The children from Martham School come to sing: We were delighted to welcome the children from Martham junior school into Ealing House to sing their medley of songs.

Flegg High School: Some of the residents were treated to Afternoon tea at Flegg High School. It was really lovely, so much thought had gone into each setting at the table. Everyone really enjoyed it. Well done everyone.

Jenny and Sara’s Children come in and sing and spread goodwill to all. They children came along with Santa and sang some of their songs, following which they handed out some gifts. The men got some Christmas socks and the women got some festive broaches.

Thank you to our amazing volunteers Elaine Kirby and Ann Tubby.

Tea Time Christmas Quiz: We love our tea time quizzes, and combined with Christmas trivea what better way could be spend our evening. We all learnt something about Christmas in the process. It was great FUN.

JusDen Christmas Eve entertainment: What a better way to spend a Christmas Eve than with Dennis and his wonderful way with the residents. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed singing along to his songs. leaving totally ready for the following day!

Christmas Day: WOW what a good time we all had. It got off to a great star with the arrival of Santa and his ‘new helpers!’

They went around handing out sacks of gifts to everyone. Following this there was musical entertainment from Colin and Corine Tungate, Daphne’s family. Corine sang Silent night in German which was amazing.

Before we new it Lunch was ready and 32 of us sat down for a delicious meal together. Mandy was our cook this year and she certainly gave us a wonderful meal. Thank you.
