Martham Carnival 2014

Ealing House joined in the village spirit as it prepared for the Martham Carnival. This was held on July 5th and 6th.

St Mary’s church was putting on a display of  “collections”. So for this we decided to make a giant collection of faces from around the world.

All faces were made using a paper plate, which were painted in differing skin tones.

Then everyone’s creativity really came out when they brought the plates to life by adding all sorts of  collage materials, making each plate truly individual and thus becoming cultural faces.

We then thought about how to depict each culture; and it was decided to  do this by using food or crops produced in the area. So that rice from China, Tulips from Holland and so it went on.

To finish it off we then needed a world! This was constructed by using a papier mache over a children s football!!!

Then it was down to Vince who had the task of making a frame big enough to hold the sheet we had glued all of our plates on!! As ever he came up with a fantastic piece of engineering and our display came to life for all to see.

To further the display we took photos of Nora with her cuddly bear collection.

Also Joyce had a photo of  the amazing roundabout her husband made out of Balsa wood. He used a pen knife to carve it with, taking 10 years to complete, it truly was a labour of love.

Then a collection of Joyce’s knitting collections was put on display, making our entry complete!

We were also going to go to the playing field to help break the Guinness World Records for the most Super Hero’s to be in one place. How ever the weather was truly atrocious, so unfortunately we were not able to venture out. as you can see we were all set to go!

The procession was watched instead from the warmth and dry of the lounge windows.
