As ever, the excitement grew as the forthcoming Scarecrow Festival grew nearer. It was to be held as usual over the Spring Bank holiday weekend at the beginning of May. So with Easter out of the way there was much to prepare. We decided to embark on a somewhat more elaborate yarn bombing display to go at the front door. With the design decided upon it was then time to bring it to life!
Anne kindly showed us how to make some woollen flowers which proved simple to do (for some!!); so before long we had hundreds to use! It also gave us a chance to decorate other areas of the display which was fantastic bringing the display together.
Some of the flowers were added to an arch which was placed at the front door, others used to make the shrub look like it was is bloom. They were also added to a blanket to cover the legs of our wheel barrow scarecrow (Thanks to Anne for attaching them all!)
That was not the end to our creations, as I’m sure you can imagine!
We decided to yarn bomb both a female and male scarecrow. This was done in ‘pieces’ using a light ply wood so that it was more manageable for everyone to work on. Once each piece was ready it was carefully attached to a post, and as if like magic it formed a scarecrow!! Look and see the finished results.
Finally we thought that there should be a new addition to the Ealing House family. This year it was the turn of Lilac May to come to life. We thought that we needed a character to depict how we celebrate anything and everything here at the home, therefore she needed to be having a good time!!!
What a GREAT time she had! She rode on the gate complete with her bottle of Ealing House white wine, a glass of wine (which someone added? what inside!!!! it looked like wine, but was it!?) and a bunch of flowers. (More yarn bombing!)
We had such a fantastic time throughout, and enjoyed the many visitors who came along to see the display over the bank holiday weekend
The weather although not so good on Sunday, got out fine on the Monday enabling many of the residents to go outside and see everything in place for themselves, joined by the many visitors to the home.
We were delighted to learn that we achieved a Highly Commended for all out efforts. We will decide what to purchase with the £30 prize money in due course.
There is a booklet about all our efforts, so make sure you take a look when you next visit.
