We were building up to Burn’s night celebrations which happened to fall on a Friday this year, so we had plenty of time to get ready.
We began the week by decorating up the dining room in a tartan/Scottish theme.
We had our lovely Nessie back in the room to join us for the week. she’s been safely looked after during the last year.
Activities for the week included, making some smaller Nessie’s to keep her company, for some reason this led to some high jinx with the googly eyes! (take a look and see).
We also held a Scottish themed Quiz night, with the winners receiving some shortbread. It was a really social evening, with everyone enjoying the refreshments. It goes without saying that these were of a Scottish nature. Oatcakes Scottish Cheese and Orkney Pate.
Burns Night (Day)
Time was spent laying a ‘special’ table for lunch Including Nessie. Residents and visitors gathered and the celebrations began at 12:00 when Ian the Piper began playing the bagpipes; 12:30 the Haggis was piped in and Vince read The Shelick Grace. Following a toast of Scottish whisky ‘The Haggis’ was then presented to everyone, before being dished up with accompanying mash and neaps.
Dessert was Cranachan which is a favourite of everyone. It was a lovely indeed and a special meal ‘Thanks to Mandy’ for preparing was made by Graham. We also remembered absent friends.
